Living an utralight lifestyle

I have decided to purchase only ultralight clothing for use in my non-hiking life, in order to reduce costs, allow for assessment, and have ultralight clothing on hand at all times for hiking. The same is true for other ultralight gear that would work in both hiking and non-hiking environments. For example, an ultralight backpack would work to carry groceries home from the market. I'd be interested to hear whether anyone else is doing this, and if so, how this ultralight lifestyle is working out for you.

Thanks, Nunam

Do you sleep in a tent year round? Is your home ultra light?

You #@@#$$% people drive me crazy. Is your car ultralight?
Do they make ultralight big screen TeeVees?

What the fu@K?

Same here. I only have one pack now, one sleeping bag, one pair of shoes, very few extra clothes. Since I hiked the AT over two years ago, I've been traveling with my wife and small dog, renting furnished apartments and houses in various cities. Everything we need fits into a compact sedan, including two bicycles.

I made a minor breakthrough last summer on a bicycle tour. I used my UL hiking gear on my bike. That was great, and I even got some good hikes in. My UL pack doubled as a sleeping bag stuff sack on my back rack, so I had everything I needed for hiking. The total load was about ten extra pounds on the bike.

I’m in my mid-fifties and this works out great for me. I was even able to cut costs enough to stop working a few years ago. I attribute that directly to the UL lifestyle, applied to the rest of my life.

Garlic, no fires to put out? Glad things are going well for you my friend. You always did live the spartan life style just like you and Pickle hiked. Say hello to Pickle for me. Ned

Garlic: I'm impressed with what you're doing with your life. You're fully immersed and live in accord with your ideals. It's admirable.

You’ve given me much to think about.

This D Duke person doesn't seem to have a real interest in the content of this site. I find them to be offensive. What do you think?
