Lodging? Burlington, VT/Williamstown, MA

I’m planning a LT SOBO hike beginning in late September. My plan is to take Amtrak to Burlington for a shuttle to the northern terminus and then catch the bus from the southern terminus in Williamstown home.

I’ll need to spend a night in Burlington upon arrival and catch a shower and a night’s rest in Williamstown prior to departure. Does anyone have any reccomendations for hiker friendly lodging in these towns? The GMC E2E guide obviously doesn’t cover Burlington and has very limited info on Williamstown.

Thanks.

Get in touch with the Outdoor Gear Exchange on Cherry St. in Burllington (gearx.com). The folks there might have info for you. Burlington is full of all the usual motels. In Williamstown the bus leaves right from the Willaimstown (or Williams) Inn. Another source of info there would be the “Mountain Goat” Hiking Shopm 413-458-8445 They used to allow camping in their backyard if you asked.
Do you have the End-to-Ender’s guide from the Green Mountain Club (GMC)? It is published annually, weighs only ounces, and is designed to be carried with you. It is full of trail town by town info.

The Williams Inn - which is the only place mentioned in the E2E guide is also the only place in town mentioned in whiteblaze.net’s lengthy guide to hiker friendly lodging along the AT. See www.williamsinn.com

For my northbound trip last year, I stayed the night before hitting the trail at
Cozy Corner Motel
284 Sand Springs Rd. & US 7 • 413-458-8006

it was fine, no hassles, no complaints - but no reason to rave either. We picked it because it allowed dogs.

On alternative to staying in Burlington, which is a fun town - would be to stay near the trail head at some place (like Rose Apple or the other places mentioned in your E2E guide) - you might save some money combining lodging and shuttle, and you might get some good advice about the trail from folks who have a lot of experience sending people off and picking them up and get an early start in the morning.
