Logistict for the AZT

Hey everyone. I’m currently thinking of hiking the AZT starting in mid March (I’m somewhat flexiable about the exact date). As I’m currently working in a boy scout camp in northern Minnesota, I realy don’t have much time to do any research about logistics, resupply, etc’. I’m also wondring if there are any water caches on the trail (I can’t make my own, as I have no car) or I can avoid them.

I’ll be happy to hear any information you have about the trail, and your opinion wether I can hike this trail without prior planing.

IF there is anyone out there planing to thruhike the trail nort this spring, I’d be happy to join him/her, at least in the begining, hence save the price of the shuttle…

Thanks

You should check out Apple Pie’s journal… she is currently on the trail, so you might find some good info there.

Hi Roni, My son and I met you in Florida when we were thru hiking a couple of winters ago. I’m hiking the AZT this spring, starting about March 31. I’ve got a ride arranged from Tucson to the Mexican border. Care to join me, at least from the border to Patagonia? Bowlegs (Steve)

I’m actualy hiking this trail with Mothers-Natures-Son. We were thinking about something closer to mid march, but we don’t have any concrete date, so and we haven’t booked flights yet, so it might work out… are you planing to hike the whole trail? how fast?
Both john (a.k.a. MNS whosw also on trailjournals) and I would be happy if you would join us, though from my experience, its often hard to stick a whole thruhike with a hiking partner (its true for John and I too).

B.T.W. Did I meet you in cental Florida after you took the western route around orlando and hiked the eastern? I can’t recall your name (I’m REALY bad with names) but there weren’t exactly hundreds of thruhikers that year…

We hiked the west side of Lake Okee and the west branch away from Orlando. We met you at a hiker’s hut. You were stretched out in your hammock on the front porch. My son had hiked part of the CDT with an Israeli named Ahmeet.

Anyway, I can start earlier if need be. I’d actually prefer to hike solo except for the passage from the Mex border to Patagonia, 55 miles. I haven’t booked my airline ticket yet either. Is mid-March the “best” time to start the AZT as far as water availability?

I live in Phoenix and am doing this trail in sections, 2 or three days at a time. If you need any help let me know as I am fairly familiar with the state. Send me an e-mail and let me know how I can help.
