Lone Pine lake Camping

In one of my JMT guidebooks it mentions a campground at Lone Pine Lake. In searching the net today I couldn’t find anything on camping at Lone Pine Lake. Has anybody camped there? I am considering my last night on the trail there.

Thanks in advance.

…i’d say that if you’re that close to the end of the trail, after 2-4 weeks hiking, you’re going to want to finish hiking the extra few miles downhill to get to a real meal and a bed that night.

 I am going to savor everything about my time on the trail- thats the plan anyway. Getting a ride out of Whitney Portal anyhow, so no bed gonna happen that nught.

So nobody has stayed there? Well, its either that or at the Portal campground…

I’m 99% sure there is no camping allowed at Lone Pine Lake. If no one answers 100%, try asking at whitneyportalstore.com . That’s the most active Whitney forum.

If i were going to NOT go to a bed that night, i’d try to time it to camp at the summit. (If the weather looks trustworthy. Anyway, have a blast.

If you really want to stop 2.4 miles short of Whitney Portal there is camping at Lone Pine Lake. I have camped there more than once on my way up to the summit. It’s not a common campsite because Outpost camp is only 1 mile further up the trail. You have a better chance at getting a stop at Lone Pine Lake than you do at the portal campground which is almost always full. Good Luck!
