Not to get of topic but what bike did you ride to do the TransAm bike trip. Did you have any problems and would you recommend the bike you rode.
Thanks

Oh man, I am hiking the LT next year, your site is getting me fired up! I like how you have it set up with Pics and explanation snippets next to them. Cool how it is broken down by days too.

Nice site! I’ll be checking in to see how the rest of the LT treated you. It has been on my list for a couple of years now. Time to get to it!

youngndum, I rode a Trek 520 on my transam trip. It’s a great bike for the price and very popular among bike tourists, although you’ll need to modify it a bit-
The stock saddle isn’t very good - I switched it out for a Brooks B7.
Also the gearing is too big for loaded touring - I replaced the front crankset for a smaller one for easier-spinning gears.
In Oregon the frame developed a crack in the weld on the bottom bracket. I had a bicycle shop (A Trek dealer) send them a picture of it, and they replaced the frame under warranty. I haven’t heard of anybody else experiencing trouble w/ their trek520 frames.
Other good touring bikes worth checking out in the same pice range are made by REI and Cannondale.
