Longest day on AT?

Hey everyone, just a quick note: Scott Brockmeier and I will be attempting to traverse the 99 miles of Appalachian Trail thru the Shenandoah National Park in VA in a single calendar day this Sunday. It should be an adventure no matter what- definitely a tougher feat than the Smokies traverse last March. If you’re in the area, swing by and say hi if ya can. Peace!

Hey Sweeper!! This is the Capt Chaos (Formerly Lil Rebel). Good luck to ya man. If anyone can do it, it is most definitly you man. By the way. I have decided to officially do the AT next year. I am going to take a year off from school and start on March 1 2005. I just got to figure out how to raise enough money. Well good luck to ya.

Sweeper, Good luck man. You keep pushing the envelope so be carefull if you can. My nephew met you on your last race and said you would not stop until he yelled out comer & jean. He has been section hiking the last few years to complete the AT. Trying to talk jean into another hike but she just wants to take shorter hikes. She does not like my giving advise. Good luck comer & jean

Sweeper, Good luck on your trip I hope to see you guys out there. Even with the 70 degree weather we had today there is still a few places with ice on the trail in the northern section but it will all be gone in a few days.

Thanks everybody, hey lil reb, I mean capt. good to know your new trail name, glad to hear you’re hitting the trail next year. I think you already have all the gear right, so that should help, asides from initial investments, it does not take too much to live on the trail depending on how you want to do it.

Hey Comer! Good to hear from you, I remember seeing your nephew out at Uwharrie, I was kinda spaced out, but I recognized him. That was a good run for me. Please let him know I said hi and thanks for the encouraging words. I hope you guys get out to hike, tell Jean she can’t miss out on the Long Trail! Tell her it is a shorter hike (compared to the AT haha)

Capt. and everyone, I hope to make it up to Trail Days if possible, I’ll be working for the cumberland trail conference out in TN building trail at that time though! You all should come- free lodging and food in exchange for breaking ground on a future 300-mile trail! there’s info at www.cumberlandtrail.org

Wookie man, we need to talk PCT…

Sweeper (2?) hey, have you been thru the whole SNP? We ran skyland to compton 2 weeks back and there was a ton of ice. How is the southern 2/3s fairing? I figured I’ll put some hex screws in a couple pairs of shoes just in case.

Sweeper, Sorry about posting your name in the wrong spot. I haven’t been further south then Big meadows on the trail in a while. I jog the section between Compton gap and Chester gap a few times a week. I will be our there Thursday and write a report on the conditions then. Good luck on your trip this weekend. If you made it thru the Smokies in 1 day I think you should have no trouble making it tru SNP in 1 day.

Good luck Sweeper on your attempt, sounds like a heck of a challenge! Let us know how it goes.

You probably wouldn’t remember me but I met you in 02’ at Fontana Dam the night before you attempted the Smokies traverse with your father. You backed up your station wagon full of hotdogs, hamburgers, soda, chips, pretzels, salads, etc. and treated us thru-hikers to some real trail magic!!! Thanks man!!!

Sweeper, All the snow and ice has melted on the A-T in the northern section. I jogged the section from compton gap to outside the park today and the ground is starting to dry out. It looked like someone rode a horse thru here today and left some big ruts and there was a few blowdowns. I hope you guys have good weather this weekend. When are you going start? You guys should’t have any major problems finishing it under 24 hours unless you go out to fast and try to finish it 12 - 14 hours. No matter how long it takes you to do you guys must be in great shape to attempt this. good luck “Scaper” Ga-Me 1990.
