Looking for 2-3 day AT Loop

									Hi!

My friend and I are planning a trip for early June, and are looking for a 2-3 day AT backpacking route. We would like a loop but are open to straight trails. We have plenty of day hike experience and have done some backpacking with more experienced packers but this our first time leading our own hike. We’re interested in the Shenandoah or Smoky Mountain area, but are open to other great ideas. We’d like some good views and 6-10 mile days. Any ideas?

Thanks!

You might consider I-40 to Hot Springs, NC. Arrange a shuttle with Bluff Mountain Outfitters in Hot Springs to get you to the AT/I-40 junction. Then take three days to hike northbound over Snowbird Mountain, Max Patch and Bluff Mountain, returning to Hot Springs. You'll catch some of the best 360-degree views along the AT! And the reward at the end of the trek? Hot Springs is very hiker-friendly and has a resort/spa located at the site of the town's natural hot springs. A massage and a soak... nothing better after hiking. Or...

You could make a loop around the Grayson Highlands in southwestern VA. The Highlands are known for their wild ponies and beautiful views.

Do you have a copy of AWOL’s Guide? It’s a great resource and full of helpful information.

Max Patch is absolutely incredible! And the Hostile I stayed at in Hot Springs was great! Chuck the guy who runs it is the man! and super helpful for newer hikers.
