That's the time of year that I started my thru hike. Believe me you will have plenty of hiking partners by the end of the first day. I met people in town the day before my start that I was still running into in Maine. You will not find a better group of folks. Have a great hike.

I will be hitting a section from I-40 to Erwin starting around May 9th. You may be in the area by then. I will look for you.

Don't worry about it, you'll have plenty of people to hike with when you show up. Dozens in fact, and some of them will have the same pace as you.

While it is much better to have actual partners on the PCT, CDT & most wilderness trails (to help you look for trail when it is unmarked etc); it may be detrimental on the AT. You get plenty of company at view breaks & at the shelters: going your own pace is a good thing. I mostly passed up others because I was so broke at the time (UPS withheld my last paycheck to punish me for being a rebel). Perhaps you will hit it off with someone & want to spend the rest of your trail with them. I wish!
