hey, I’m looking for a journal from a few years back, I’ve searched and searched but can’t come across it, i’m thinking it was the '04 or '05 season, but could be wrong, It was a guy who averaged over 30 miles per day, the other things that I remember is that he read while he hiked, and i think that he took a week off in the middle and started in like may or june, i just remember it being an interesting read, any help would be appreciated, thanks

In 2004 Pony Express averaged 30 miles per day but did not take any extended time off. Check his journal out. He has an interesting journal.

Bonepac was a really fast hiker, first to finish in either '05 or '06? Just a thought.

I read Bonepac’s journal too, he’s quite a hoot. He’s running a hostel now, though for the life of me I can’t remember which one.

On 7/21/04 Pony Express overtook Sugar Daddy and his crew. This is what Sugar Daddy wrote about the encounter:

This morning, Optimus celebrated his five month anniversary of his start date. “It’s my two month anniversary,” an Ichabod-Crane-looking kid bragged. Pony Express has averaged 27 miles per day and hasn’t done a day under 20 since leaving Springer. As quickly as he arrived, he signed the register, blurted, “See ya,” and sped off.

Ten minutes later, I decided I didn’t like his attitude. I slid out of my sleeping bag, packed up my things, and hit the Trail (now twenty minutes behind Pony Boy). Oh, and Optimus made a “You’re slow” sign that I fixed to the back of my pack.

I sprinted down the Trail. Up the mountain, down the mountain, I ran. 52 minutes later, I saw Pony Boy trudging up a hill. I eased up behind him, turned down the volume on my mp3 player, and said, “Hey there.”

He looked flustered. Probably didn’t expect to see someone come up behind him. “You’re moving fast,” he said as he moved to the side to let me pass.

“I don’t like hiking,” I replied. I wasn’t lying; I really don’t like hiking. I decided this sometime on the AT last year.

“Then why are you hiking the Trail?”

“There’s so much to do,” I explained. “Places to see, restaurants to eat at, people to meet. Lots of stuff…”

“Yeah, guess so,” he admitted.

“Well, I’m going to get going,” I said as I turned the volume back up on my radio. “I don’t like walking this slow.”

And with that, I ran down the hill. I probably ran another half mile or so, just to make sure he couldn’t catch me.

I hoofed it up Killington, and when I got to the top, I unpacked my bag, changed clothes, took my shoes off, and spread everything out as much as I could (to make it look like had been there a while). Pony Lover cruised in twenty minutes later or so, walking much faster than when I had seen him earlier. “How long have you been here?” was the second thing out of his mouth. “A while. Thirty minutes? Fourty-five? I don’t know…”

HA! I’m Rick James, bitch! Slap! But enough about Delivery Boy…*******************************************************

Sugar daddy has a fun journal.
