When I was at Coronado Memorial Sunday, April 15, the trail to the border was still closed due to fire damage from last year. You should check with Coronado Memorial before expecting to be able to hike this section of the AZT.

Are you referring to Joe’s Canyon Trail from Monument Headquarters to the AZ Trail near Montezuma Pass, or the actual Arizona Trail between Montezuma Pass and the border? The Arizona Trail, to my knowledge, has been rehabilitated post-fire and is open this season.

There is a “closed” sign at the south end of the parking lot but this is NOT the AZT, it is a social trail that is being rehabbed. This from the ranger at the visitor’s center. It does look like the AZT is closed but it is not.
