Looking for hiking partner for 2013 thru hike

Hello,
I am looking for a female (preferred) hiking partner for a 2013 thru hike of the Colorado Trail. I plan to average anywhere from 15-20 miles per day w/a few shorter days here and there if timing/food supply is alright, but overall w/not many rest days (-getting to town days- are not included in that statement of course). To make up for the lack of rest days I am kind of a slow hiker. I get my miles done before dark but I take my precious time sometimes and like to break often, esp in the first 2 weeks while I build up my strength. So I am looking for someone who either hikes slow or wouldn’t mind me going at my own pace, catching up at the end of each day. Comfort of having a partner there & getting personal space at the same time. I also like to take a lot of photos, listen to music while I hike at times, have food breaks here & there, etc, but I would want you to go at your own pace too so you can do your own thing. I did the pct last year so I know how to manage my time during the process pretty well and fit all of this in. I will probably resupply @ the following places unless I’m made aware of any better ideas: 1)Breckenridge, 2)Twin Lakes, 3)Princeton Hot Springs??, 4)Lake City, & 5)Molas Campground or Silverton. I would personally like to start at the end of June & finish around 1st week of August, but whatever happens, happens is how I’m going to leave this statement. I was hoping to finish early August so I could do some other hikes elsewhere, but it’s not mandatory. Send me an email if you think you’re possibly interested.

Fifteen to 20 miles a day on the CT is ambitious and definitely above average, not slow. Average for the CT is more like 12-16 miles/day. I am slow at 8-12 miles per day. Lake City is hard to hitch to(and a long way from the trail) I would like a hiking partner, but I am too old and slow for you. Good luck finding a hiking partner.

Never knew anyone had done a in-depth study of mileage on the trail. That sounds like BS to me. (I averaged 19 without much difficulty, and I am not fast at all, and I am old)

what?

Haha oh no I didn’t want to start any arguments…I don’t believe you are not old & slow TrailSnail, I prefer going at your pace actually! Believe me I know how difficult even 10 miles can be. I’ve gotten used to higher milage now training around where I live, & on the pct I was just getting used to your pace and it was rough. I have other places I’d like to go this year so I’m aiming for higher miles, probably mostly in the 16 range which I’m more than comfy with now. I’ve arranged a shuttle to & from Lake City so I am not hitching.

Oops, delete the “not” part, I wish you could edit these posts! By slow also I just meant I break a lot to rest, take in scenery, etc.

I hiked the CT last year. I had a food drop at the grocery store, McCoy’s Mountain Market 970-968-2182 in Copper Mountain, which I would walk to just right off the trail. The trail goes right by the Copper Mountain complex where you can get a restaurant meal and see the services right from the trail! Mt. Princeton Country Store held another one for me 719-395-2447 and Molas Lake Campground did too. All went well and loved the trail!

Hi Lacy, probably can’t join you for the CT because of work constraints. However, if you live in The Colorado Denver area, I would be very interested in doing some long 3-4 day backpack trips with you. It’s hard to find women who like to hike hard long days. I enjoy winter camping and desert trips too. (I am not looking for men to hike with because I have my wonderful husband who I drag along on lots of trips.). Lisa

haha…

Cooncat, thinking of starting late June or early July, not 100% sure yet.

Thanks for the info Robin! I’m going to look all of this up now.

Lisa, I currently live in the Los Angeles area but I’m always traveling & actually considering a move to Colorado within the next year or 2, (this trail hike I hope will help influence the decision). But in the meantime if you ever find yourself out west I’d be interested in doing the same sort of thing over here with you.

All of you feel free to email me.

should be on trail by July 3 or 4…i have the luxury of taking up to 75 days to complete…planning to do the collegiate west loop and perhaps the Gunnison spur. Until Salida, my schedule looks quite ordinary when compared to online forums. So thinking it might be nice to share the early part of my trip with others.

old, fat, not quite dead yet:)

Hi Lacy, I am planning a thru hike at about the same time this summer - I’m looking to start late June or early July and ideally I need to be off the trail by August 10. I would be interested in hiking together if you can bend your preference a bit. Are you hiking east to west?

Mike, see on you on the trail then most likely!

Jeff- I need to be off the trail around Aug 6,7,8 so I can be somewhere by Aug 10th  . Yes, hiking E to W. A woman responded to my messages stating to call her about hiking it together, but when I called the number was acting strange and nobody picked up. If I don’t get in touch with her by Sat I will let you know.

Lacy, I am also planning to start a thru hike most likely the first week of July. I’m running the Leadville Marathon June 29th and am figuring 3-4 days resting/eating will prepare me for the trail.

Let me know how your plans unfold and at the least I hope to see you all out there.

Lacy - I may be interested in joining you for about 2-3 weeks worth. I live in the Denver area and am scheduling time off to try and get some of the CT checked off my list. I am not fast hiker, great endurance. I am also in the same situation as you not wanting to be a single lady on the trail.

Can anyone help out 2 hikers trying to get to the trail on Friday July 5th? We’re arriving in Denver airport around 7:45pm and have no way of getting to the start. I reserved a campsite at Chatfield State park for that night thinking that would help, but other than that, we’re pretty lost. I through hiked the AT in 2008 and figured i would just wing this one too, but it’s getting close to that time. Anyone have suggestions or can help?

Airport to Downtown via RTD Bus. Downtown to South Mineral Station via Light Rail.

      RTD-Denver.com

Cab from Mineral Station to Waterton Canyon (or Chatfield State Park). I’ve heard around $20.
