New to the forum and trail hiking, and looking for someone who might be interested in doing some hiking. VERY reluctant to bite off my first segment or two alone, since I have not hiked the trail or longer trails yet! Any hiking clubs schedule days to hike the trail? My son would hike with me, but since he is in college in UT, its been nearly impossible to get our schedules to match, and the summer is half over. Thanks for any advise!

i hiked the CT in 2003. As I recall, if one is to hike 2 sections alone, it should be the first 2 sections. they are the most forgiving and accessible. there is only one big climb, accentuated by a water carry through a burn zone, but everything else is lower altitude with numerous roads frequented by mountain bikers and tourists. shoot for breckenridge. the lost creek wilderness is beautiful, but hardly rugged at all. it is a perfect place to try out your gear because breck has all kinds of outfitters to replace anything you want changed. the fireside hostel is also a nice place to recoup. good luck!
