Has anyone heard about any of the National Parks closing and/or have any information about this in the looming government shutdown?

Unless the stimulus money is used to put a fence around these parks, long distance hikers will just have to get by without all the pleasures associated with day hikers.:cheers

I'm sure it wouldn't work like this, but imagining the opportunity to hike across Yosemite, starting from outside the park, and across the valley with NOBODY there. I've had fantasies like that for years...

A federal shutdown would not affect NPS law enforcement, from what I've heard. Beyond the frontcountry, though, I imagine it'd just be you, the wind, and all the other scofflaw thru-hiking ruffians. ;)
