Shnookums, my boy friend “Draggin” and I went out for a 10 day hike on the AT in VT at the end of August a couple years back. We heard the Loons all night long calling back and forth to each other, what a beautiful sound. We were staying at the Stratton Pond Tenting Area at the time. I was in total amazement the next morning when I went for a swim in the pond to find the loons dipping under the water along with me. The simple joys on the trail are forever remembered.

Pretty much, as long as there is open water (not frozen), the loons should be there.
They don’t fly far for winter quarters, just down to the coast. So, if you miss them on the lake of the Northern Forest then you should be able to find them along the coast.
