Loop Hike from Red's Meadow

I would like to do a loop hike out of Red’s Meadow and am looking for suggestions. I was thinking of hiking from Red’s on the JMT to John Muir Trail Ranch to resupply and then return another trail. I looked on the map and found the Fish Creel Trail that appears to loop back to Red’s. Anybody been on this trail? I am looking for a combination of forest and high country. Looking to do a week or more. Looping in and out of Red’s will allow me to leave my car. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

I’ve done the section between Silver Divide and McGee pass. It is stunning. Maybe Lake Mary to Duck Lake to Purple Lake to Tully Hole to a 1.1 connector trail and then North?

I was in the area quite a few years ago and it was pretty amazing. I forget exactly which way we went, but I do remember that it was a high snow year and early season. We could not get across Fish Creek. We had to backtrack. There were people on both sides of the trial and no one could find a safe way to get across. Just something to think about when you’re out there being that this year is a pretty high snow year.

Your proposed loop will be great. Unless you’re going in May or mayyyybe early June you should be able to manage the crossings. They’ll be cold and you have to do them smart, but it’s a great loop.

Do not miss Minaret Lake. Hike in as far as the trail goes around the second lake. There is a beautiful waterfall on the way up, too. You do have to backtrack if you wish to stay on trails, but you could then loop over to Holcomb or Superior Lake and out via Fern Lake. Fern Lake is not noteworty, but has nice campsites next to the lake.

I recommend the “Devils Postpile Trail Map” from Harrison Maps for a close-up of trails around Red Meadows.
