Loop ideas - The Colorado Trail

Hey guys - I’m looking for suggestions for any segments that intersect with other trails to make a loop of 10-40 miles for a day or weekend trip. Since I live in Denver, I’m primarily looking for something on the eastern half of the trail to minimize drive time. I’m getting sick of these out-and-backs and would love some fresh scenery, even if it lengthens my day.

I’m eyeing one or two in the Lost Creek area that I’ll try out once the snow starts melting, but what else should I add to my list?

We have been thinking about a loop in the Twin Lakes area.

40ish miles. Over Hope Pass and Elkhead pass to Pine Creek. Would definately have to wait for the snow to clear. ATVs/jeeps might be an issue on the way up to Elkhead.

Nice loops in the Lost Creek area are good. We’ve been in that area as well.

Check out the Brookside-McCurdy Trail which intersects the CT in Segment 4. It’s a beautiful area, fairly close to Denver, and lots of loop options in Lost Creek Wilderness. One of my favorite areas on the east end of the CT. SJ Ron

+1 on Bill T’s idea. You can climb three 14’rs in a single day while doing this hike. (Missouri, Belford, Oxford)
