I think I’ve decided to go with the Lowa Scout II Lady boots for my hike. Has anyone had any experience with these boots or Lowa boots in general? What did you think of them?

I have hiked with Lowa Renegades for a couple of years and love the boots. I also know a female hiker friend of mine who uses Lowas and loves them. My only complaint is that the tread is not that agressive so tends to be a little slippery on muddy trail.

I wear the Renegades and have liked them a lot. No break in, no blisters. My husband has also used them for several years - about 5000 miles in all over several pairs.

I bought a pair of Lowa Tempest mids at Neels Gap when the goretex liner in my Vasque Sundowner MX2 GTX’s came loose from the inside of the boots (got a refund). The Tempest fit like a glove in the store but the heel cup is a little deep for me and caused a bad blister after a couple hours of hiking even though I moleskinned the area. I also had to move the laces out of the bottom lace holes because where the boots bend it pinched the base of my big toe painfully (gave me a bruise). I realize that they needed to be broken in just like any boot should, but these gave me more trouble than any other boots I’ve had before. I only use them for short day hikes and to wear around town now…

My husband and I hiked 800 miles on the AT this Spring with Lowa Renegade boots and loved them. They needed no break-in and we had no blisters. The only problem was a slight delaminating around the upper part of the rubber wrapping around the toe. We used Shoe Goo and that filled it in and they worked fine.

LOVE THE LOWA’s!!! They are the best!! Went through several pairs of boots on the trail and finally found LOWA Nevada mid for women…the best!! the Best!! I can’t say enough good things about them!
Of all the boots I saw on the trail, the people with LOWA had the least complaints. Facts about LOWA:
1)They are European made, so they typically have a wider make than an American made boot, which are narrower (or is it the other way around? I forget. I think that’s right though.)
2) They are more expensive than most of the boots out on the trail (or so the outfitters told me when I went looking for them, and believe me, I searched far and wide) so they aren’t carried at too many stores. My recommendation is to take the customer service number with you on the trail. LOWA have a one year warranty where if your boots wear out in less than a year (which they probably will if you are out on the trail) they will replace them for free. Here is the number: 1-203-353-0116. (I know this because I just got my boots replaced).
3) Good tip when buying LOWA’s: go to the website, www.lowaboots.com They have a sale room somewhere on the site, where you can get last year’s model dirt cheap (and the only difference is usually the color.) Or, it is this year’s model and an unpopular color. Either way it is really cheap…cheaper than anywhere I’ve seen, and I searched far and wide for LOWA’s on my hike.
But there is no link direct link to the saleroom on the home page, at least there wasn’t when I went looking…you kind of have to fiddle around…
anyway, good luck!!

I have a pair of older but seldom worn Lowa Rapeeds. Despite the lack of use they just fell apart on a recent outing. The soles just fell off. It was a good thing that I was not on an extended adventure. Make a request and I will send a photo of the disintegrated boots. It would be nice to get some satisfaction from Lowa. I don’t think one could buy Lowa boots and expect it to be long term investment.

No, Lowas don’t last long, but they’re comfortable. Before I switched to trail runners I would go through one or two pair a year.

I represent LOWA Boots and we have tried to deal with Mr. Roderick but do not seem able to satisfy him. He does have a piar of boots that are about 11 years old. They do not appear to have been abused but, yes, they have been used. They have rotted much like a bike tire or garden hose would if left sitting in the basement or garage for 10 years. They get old, dry out and fall apart. It happens.
Despite the boot’s age, Mr. Roderick was offered a very fair credit towards another pair of boots. He has declined this offer and continues to complain on web sites. In some, he has used foul & offensive language and because of that, our offer is now withdrawn.
At LOWA, our goal is to make the best boots possible for the outdoors and to satisfy our customers in every way reasonably possible. We have concluded that with Mr. Roderick rasonable is no longer possible.
To all of you who have used our boots and enjoyed the outdoors in them, thanks.

Lowa boots have changed over the years. My husband and I have been wearing them for about 10 years. Our original pairs lasted us about 1000 miles (2 1/2 - 3 months on a long hike) and cost only $59. Then they started falling apart in 700 miles and the price went up to $99. Then 400 miles and the price went up to $199. Some started to break down in less than a month of daily use. I emailed the company about the fact that the boots were splitting at the same place every time and received no response. Oddly enough, we still wear the boots, because they are very comfortable and have no break in problems - but I don’t wear them on long distance hikes any more, and won’t recommend them for such. My running shoes are more durable - and less expensive. My husband still wears his Renegades, because they are the only boots that fit his wide feet - but he goes through a lot of boots each hike and I know that if he can find another boot that fits he will switch, despite 10 years of being comfortable in the LOWAs - simply because having to buy new boots every month or two on a long hike is too much of a problem.

Love my Lowa boots. Mine are low cut model and have about 1000km on them - Whites, Vermont,Quebec, Provence France, New Zealand, Coast to Coast UK, Tuscany and about 450km of Camino is Spain. Just gussied them up for another jaunt in a couple of weeks - Italy, Cinque Terre and Amalfi Coast, remaining 370km on the Camino in Spain and some random hiking in UK. Most comfortable boots ever - tho I suspect they will be worn out by end of this trip - approx 500km or so.
never had to break in boots or had blisters. Perhaps if this is the case maybe it’s not the right boot for one’s feet?? Perhaps?

Bought a pair of Lowa renegades in 2006 and they fell completely apart (the sole literally came away in pieces) in 2010. Was quite disappointed, as I thought they would last a lot longer. I was living in India then, and wondering if it was due to the humidity. Not extensively used, but atleast 20-30 days each year. Anyone recommend another brand of the same type where I wont have this issue in heat and humidity? Thx!

I also bought a pair of Lowa renegades probably 10 years ago but don’t use them that often, they came highly recommended from the knowledgeable folks at REI and I thought I would have them for longer being that I may have used them a total of 15 times in 10 years? Well I went away hiking this past weekend. Left with boots in perfectly great shape and throughout the weekend they literally fell apart. By the time I got home the soles were completely off on both shoes. I couldn’t believe it. Really glad this didn’t happen on the hike or I would be in big trouble. I have no idea why this happened but I can’t recommend LOWA boots as they are not dependable.
