Lujan pass resuppply?

Im planning a CT southbound hike this summer. I did the trail in 2008 and I remember the one and only resupply headache was at Spring Creek pass- Have to hitch either to Creede or Lake city, wasn’t an easy hitch. I recently read on “Whiteblaze forum” there was someone - a trail angel at Lujan pass- who can hold resupply parcels. Does anyone know about this?

From reading some earlier posts, his name is apparently trailguy. If you go back far enough in this forum you will see him and you can send him an email. Seems I read somewhere they he did not hold packages, but worth a shot. I am gonna try the thru hike this year also starting June 25, 2012. Not gonna go for any speed records or anything since I will have the dog. If you make arrangements with Lake City Outfitters, they would bring a resupply to you at spring creek pass (for a fee of course)

His trailname is Apple and he is the man! I emailed him ahead of my hike last year and he said he would handle mail drops but if you call him from Salida and tell him when you’ll be there he may be able to drive you to Gunnison for dinner and resupply. He hauled 4 of us there last summer. He was at Lujan Pass from eary July to late August and was planning on being back this summer. Back Country Outfitters in Lake City was an awesome stay also. Not a bad hitch to town and Ben gave us a ride back to the trail the next day. Have a great hike!

Thanks a lot for the info on Apple and Lake City outfitters, I hope to get this resupply wrinkle straightened out.

Yep, Apple very generously helped me out with a re-supply by giving me a lift from Lujan pass to Gunnison last summer. I wanted to buy him supper and give him some bucks to help with gas, and he wouldn’t hear of it.

He’s a true trail angel.

I will indeed be back at Lujan this summer but only from mid July to mid August. I no longer accept mail drops but if you let me know when you will get to Lujan I can make sure you get resupplied. I get email/phonemail/ or text at the trailhead.

Thanks Apple, Im still in the early stages of planning and fantasizing this CT trip. It looks so far like a kinda low snowpack this season so my initial plan was to start the CT ~mid june, that would probably put me at Lujan pass/hwy 114 before you’re there. Im really not sure when I should start- I like the extra daylight you get in June but I wonder how bad the bugs are at that time. Does anyone have any experience-bugwise/snow-wise- with an early to mid June start on the CT?
In 2009 I started the CT in early July and probably met you at Lujan pass- someone was handing out hot dogs, a nice unexpected surprise! Regardless, if I start later I’ll send you an email.

Apple, I can’t begin to tell you how awesome you are. I’m the idiot who left his food-bag in your truck and was mindlessly wandering down the trail through the cow pasture when you literally saved my day by driving down the road to deliver my food-bag to me. Thank you so much for what you do!
