My husband and i will be section hiking this spring in Ma and were wondering does any on know if there is a postoffice in Tryingham ma? it seems to be the center point of our hike and would be a good spot for a mail drop. Our trail book shows one but not sure. if there isnt one what would be the next place to send? Were starting at Greylock and ending at park just after the trail crosses route 7 in Conn

There is indeed a P.O. in Tyringham (The Zip Code is 01264; it’s open Monday-Friday from 9-12:30 and 4-5:30; on Saturday the hours are 8:30-12:30; the phone is (413)243-1225).

As Tyringham is roughly a mile from the Trail, it might be more convenient to send mail to either Cheshire or Dalton, MA. which are directly on the Trail; small stores are found in both towns very close to the Trail; you might not really need to seen food drops here.

If you do use this as a maildrop, you can get to “town” by using Jerusalem Road which you reach before Main (Tyringham rd) going North on AT. Its only .6 on Jerusalem instead of almost a mile on the other road. When I was here in June 01’ the post office was the only thing in town. Pay Phone outside.

If your planning to walk through Mass you really don’t need mail drops. There are so many towns so close to the trail and many folks along the road who openly pick you up for a ride. The towns have groceries and all the things you’ll need to get re-uped for another couple of days. However, Towns to see along the trail that I can think of would be Cheshire, Dalton, Becket/Lee, Gt. Berrington, and Egermont. Stopping in Dalton, or I should say, walking through Dalton, you should stop by and see Tom, He’s a host who lives along the trail and sometimes has Ice Cream! He will also have good info for you about whats a head of you on trail. Lee has a Price Chopper and may other emenities, Beer, beer, beer,. And Gt. Berrington (GB) has great music and wonderful food. with a whole foods market called Guidos. They have great produce and specialty prepaired foods that make your belly soooo happy, and an outfitter. don’t know about hostel or motel?
Anyway, enjoy

As others have said, there is a PO in Tyringham.

Southbound from Greylock, there is PO in Cheshire and Dalton, but these towns are probably too close to the start of your section hike.

South of Tyringham, you could go into Lee or Great Barrington, but they are further off the AT.

Salisbury is a popular place for people to resupply coming north. You might consider resupply there if it’s not too close to the end of your hike.
