Mailing Canister Fuel

I’ve been trying to figure this out. Can small (100gram) and medium (220gram) fuel canisters be shipped USPS? I understand that they must be labeled: Surface Mail Only; ORM-D. But it sounds like this system is being terminated? Its really quite confusing. I read 5 things that make it sound like its legal, then I read 1 in which someone says US-DOT recently reclassified our fuel canisters as too large. My understanding of the law is 1 liter or less, metal container, properly labeled (ground only), and all is legal. Either way, am I OK to mail 220gram or 100gram fuel canisters in my resupply boxes?
Thanks

Yes you can mail them, ground only. It takes just a bit more time… plan on it. Ask your post office, Postmaster to confirm legality. The last time I did so was in 09 on the CDT myself. My advise there, go large up north. Carry the smallest fuel container as a reserve. Leave the “bigger towns” with a full large one, even if you leave behind a used container. If you use your reserve for any extended period of time, then replace that one too. Just sayin… Hot food is a good thing :boy.
