We were on Springer this past weekend and Many Sleeps wasn't up there signing anyone in. I know he told us before that he was there feb-may. Does anyone know where he is and maybe why he's not signing thru-hikers up anymore?

To those of you who are interested. Many Sleeps is an elderly man who has hiked the AT and for several years he has went to Springer mtn from Feb to May and camped in his truck in the parking lot and every morning he would hike to the top of Springer to sign hikers in. This was something he liked to do and it also gave the ATC a rough estimate as to how many hikers had started.

hoch, Many Sleeps would stop and talk to everyone passing through, or starting their hike at Springer. He recorded names, trail names, dates, thru-hiker, section hiker or day hiker. He would sit in a lawn chair, right next to the start of the AT, or for some the end of the AT. He was paid by the ATC. I'm not sure how much he slept in his truck, but even in his truck at FS42, he would be able to catch anyone hiking on the trail.
