First download Google earth, then download this file from Google earth hacks it shows the trail and shelters. It is a safe site.

OK,

I downloaded the map and google earth, looks slick. But, what can I do with this? I have never used google earth before, so if you have any advice or pointers on the utility of the program, please let me know.

You can use Gogle Earth to plan your next hike by seeing the section you want to hike, or figure out the spot that a journalist is at when reading TJ. I also used it to plan a road trip in the pacific northwest. It worked very well. I found lots of back roads to travel on that trip. I’m sure there is alot of other things that could be done with it, that other people will tell you about.
