Bob Smith (Waterboy AT 99)and Diane Smith (2/3 AT 03) parents of Christine Smith (1/3 AT 03) have just bought the Maples B&B in Damascus. We will not be running it as a B&B any more. But we do plan to be very hiker friendly. Over our 3 hikes we have had some wonderful trail magic. We hope to repay some the great kindness we recieved. We will be looking forward to meeting the class of 05. And yes, we will be providing water for water guns for the parade during Trail Days

Wow, somebody had some bucks. Not running it as a B&B?? Pretty big to be just a home. Will you be renting the outer rooms as apartments? Sue/HH

I live in Damascus Va and am suprised that the maples will no longer be a bed and breakfast type place. If it is not going to be that then what will you turn it into? That home is too big to be any thing but a bed and breakfast. I would have liked to have seen it stay a bed and breakfast inn.

The important part of our message is that we intend to be hiker friendly. Maybe a supper for thru hikers once a week, transportation to Dr’s in Abingdon or bus station if needed.

Maybe rides during Trail Days back to the trail. Probably will rent out the outer rooms later on. Tigger stop by and visit, give us a while to get to the front door because we may get lost in this great big house.

Thanks Miss Janet, please do come by and you are welcome to stay with us anytime. 1/3 will be very happy to know that you stayed with us. She still talks about how you put her up even though you were full and she arrived late at night.

We will be in touch.

Good luck with the house. My husband and I stayed there many many times, usually in the apartment out back over the store. I sure hikers will be glas to know that there is another supporter of the AT in town. (It is a big place!) Sue/HH:girl

Hey 3/3 and 2/3! That’s great news! I’m excited to hear about that. I guess the call of the mountains was just too strong for you to stay in FL any longer. It brought me up here to Asheville - just south of you. Please, please let me know if I can help you in any way getting set up in your new place (if you need to stop over here on your way up/back). Congratulations! That is really great news. - Moonshadow - PS - do tell 1/3 hello for me. Is she still out west?
