Its clear now but wet. Any snow left over from last week is melting off from the rain and will refreeze tomorrow. Have to see when its time to go. Some of the rutted areas will be a stream, wet feet for sure. It can get lake effect snows from Erie if the wind is right, which don’t dhow on radar, but its still a nice walk, have fun, TTFN.

Bushwhack,
I think your assessment of trail conditions in MD now may be right on, but I would have to disagree about the "lake effect snows from Erie" you mentioned. I grew up in Western Maryland near the AT, and I would have loved to have gotten some lake effect snow, because I like snow and lots of it. The main snow belt in MD lies to the West of the AT about a 100 miles in Alleghany and Garret Counties.

Hmmm, I drive a narrow time window to Harrisburg every year about this time from Ohio and see some right when we hit the Pa mountains on the Turn Pike every year. Doesn’t make it down to Hancock or Morgantown and east of there? Must be those “rocky mountains” in Pa, hehe. It could also be sunny and 70 when Kevin goes to seeing how the weather is going this year. ?? That’s right, the AT crosses on the flat land before the hills in MD. I grew up in Anne Arundel county in the 70’s and since leaving I forget the lay.

Bushwhack,
I was not trying to belittle you about the “lake effect” stuff. I realized when I made my post I would probaly get some negative feedback from you. You seem to weigh-in on every issue, and you have many friends on this forum who defend you right or wrong. I really did not think you would belittle my geographical knowledge with sarcastic remarks. I still stick to my statement that the “main snow belt in MD lies 100 miles to the West of the AT.” I dont mean to say that the Blue Ridge (the AT route through MD) does not get any snow. My advice to Kevin is take your hike. Be prepared for inclement weather. Also, the feel free to contact the Appalachian Trail Conference headquarters in Harpers Ferry, WV which is relatively close to where you want to hike. Their number is (304) 535-6331. You should find them very helpful and knowledgable about general trail conditions in the area you plan to hike. Enjoy your adventure.
