What would conditions be like in early April in Mass. considering its been a low snow year so far?

I’m leaving for my PCT thru hike around the 3rd week of April, and since my lease at my apartment is up in April, I’ve been considering a prep hike.

Cold and wet. Lots of mud.

Mud season usually. Hikers can do a lot of damage to the trail when the frost is coming out of the ground and the trail is soft. Best if you hiked further south.

i live in connecticut 15 min from mass. and as of today we have absolutly no snow on the ground and sumwhat dry earth considering the rain we have been getting. i have been doing day hikes all winter long and i can say the ground conditions have been great thus far in conn and mass[wachusett mtn area in mass and killingly state forest in conn]…As for early april hiking i do agree with the other guys about mud and trail conditions at that time but i usually hike around that time of year and have few problems… check back around the end of march and i will update you on the trail conditions around this neck of the woods…peace out, nitewalker:cheers

I grew up in NH and lived in MA for a while. As the folks above from N.E. can tell you, we get a majority of our snow in March and April lately. Just watch the weather forecast.
