McKenzie Pass open for hikers?
There are some posts on the pcta.org site that make it sound like McKenzie Pass in Oregon may be closed to hikers due to road construction on Hwy 242? Does anyone know anything about this?

My dad and I are planning to hike through there in a couple weeks. Any info would be really appreciated. Thanks!

The road is closed but you can still walk thru. Just no windshield tourists to yogi from.

I tried posting this before, but the road is closed till aug 17th (estimated). As mentioned before, no issue with hikers… Also, the road might be open to the pass from the east side, I’m not sure.

anyway, I tried to include a link to the ODOT site last posting, maybe that’s why my post didn’t go through?

The Pass is closed, but trail angel Lloyd Gust will pick you up there. He lives in Bend and gave Hydro and I a ride from Elk Lake to Bend. If your Thru hiking you’ll see his phone number on the trail head sign at Windigo Pass. Santiam Pass is open and a half hour hitch to Sisters ± 20 miles north of there.

The road might be open till Lava Camp but I’m not sure, there were a lot of horse people out in that area, and I have no clue where they came from.
