Meal ideas - Appalachian Trail

Question for the seasoned and experienced hikers. I read many journals, but the postings are vague on the hikers meals. What does everyone bring to eat that is appealing to them? What do you bring if your not into all that dehyrated fruits and stuff for munching on?? Do hikers live on oatmeal in the morning, snack bars of cliff or GORP, tuna/crackers for lunch and mountain house or some other meal type for dinner?? Please share if you have a moment what your typical meals were, did you like them, was it heavy in your pack, and anything else you want to advise.

I actually like oatmeal so I have it most mornings. I will add some dried fruit or nuts to it for a little extra flavor. In a pinch I will throw a handfull of trail mix in the oatmeal. Otherwise its bagel and PB. Throughout the day I just snack on trail mix, protien bars and such. If I do have a lunch it is quite often tuna, chicken, ham spread plus cheese in a wrap of some kind. Also pepperoni or summer sausage and cheese. Dinner is most often freeze dried meals or rice and tuna/salmon/chicken or pasta sides. Once I found spam in foil packets and mixed it with freeze dried vegetables and rice for a casserole. After your on the trail for a while you will get pretty creative and eat some combonations that seem disgusting in regular life. I once had to resupply at a gas station/convienence store and went for four days eating pop tarts, ho hos and other junk food.

Mild Chedar Cheese ( Block ) with Summer Sausage on Tortilla Wrap like a “Burrito” or Tuna Salad ( Single Pack ) with cheese and Summer Sausage on Tortilla Wrap or Tuna Creations with cheese and Summer sausage on Tortilla Wrap or, PB with Strawberry Jam on Tortilla Wrap and sometimes i eat this one for Breakfast and i usally eat two Tortilla Wraps for lunch with Snickers Square for desert.
and these can also be done at Dinner Time if i don’t feel like cooking.

Dinner is:
Somekind of Pasta Side with cheese and summer sausage and snickers candy bar, also Ramen Noodle with a small bag of dorito’s and summer sausage added together and about once a week i will try and get a Mountain house Pro-Pack.
also Spagetti Noddles Broken up pretty small with Pepperoni slices and salsa, with Honey Bun for desert and when i cook i place food into Zip-Lock bag and then i boil water in my Fosters pot and pour water into Zip-Lock bag, and let stand inside my pot cozy for around five minutes YUM YUM.

Snacks is:
Starburst, Snickers bar, honey buns, Gorp, or just plain peanuts, and when i can get it fresh fruit like Banana’s Apples, Grapes, I also carry Onions and Peppers for the Zip-Lock omelette’s and the Pasta Sides.
