I just finished my thru hike on the 11th. I wore Merrell Pulse II boots. The first pair made it to Vermont! They had 1600 miles on them. I made sure to buy the same model again and they got me up Katahdin and I still have them. They have about 600 miles on them now. Also, I never had a blister on the whole AT. Pretty amazing for me. I'm the kind of person who never goes barefoot because my feet are so sensative. I thought for sure I would get blisters.
Anyway, The Pulse IIs are what I'd recommend.

I started with the mid- pulse and they made to to Troutdale where merrell sent me a free pair of camelions boots, however they made my feet sweat out of control so sent them home at Waynsboro and picked up a pair of ventilators and they made it to the end. The only blisters i got were from the free boots they gave me. Also, with the ventilators (or any pair of merrells) I put a layer of shoe goo on top of where the soul comes up and over the toe. I found that this is the weakest part of the shoe. once that flap begins to tear away from the shoe, its all over and will only get worse as the soul peels back from the shoe. However, a nice layer of goo on top of it should take care of it.

i’ve had several pairs of the Merrell mid-height ventilator boot - love them because they’re supportive , work well with gaiters, and are light and soft. only drawback is, I think they shrink a little after they’ve been soaked - so I buy a pair at least one size larger than usual.

i used the regular Ventilator shoes. one pair lasted 350 miles, one pair lasted 1300 miles, and the last pair went the rest of the way. i called the company after the first pair went out and they sent me new ones for free.

they had just switched to the Vibraim soles when i hiked, which i’m not a fan of, although it’s hard to find anything without the Vibraim brand these days.

thought the shoes were somewhat heavy.

I used two pair of chameleon ventilator highs for my thru-hike. I have since bought two more pair and LOVE that shoe… with the superfeet insoles of course.
