Planning on hiking the trail this year. Is there a border patrol check in campo? Will the vechicle droping me off possibly be searched? Just wondering…

I’ve never heard of anyone being searched. We had a couple official jeeps drive by without slowing down. I think they know what hikers look like by now…hopefully.

Gothedistance, when my brother heard I was thru-hiking the PCT this year he took the time while in San Diego on a business trip to drive out to Campo and check out the border and southern terminus marker. He said that going to the border a customs officer stopped him and asked where he was going and he told him the PCT southern terminus monument. When he returned however, the customs officer stopped him again and took a peak inside his car and inside the trunk just to make sure he wasn’t transporting any illegal immigrants. He did not do a full search of everything in his car, but he did look. Not sure if this is commonplace, or just an over-zealous customs officer who was bored that day…hope this helps

Give 'em a break. Customs officers have a tough job. A custom officers job is not to make you like them, it’s to make sure the law is upheld and more importantly, going home to their family at night…

dude youll be fine they wont stop you if they do they cannot search you, remember the 4th ammendement this topic is quite unescesary though it seems they would probably make you violate your rights. Just dont be a Dusch at the border then right

one less “sick bird” / “ill eagle” / “scratchback” in the country is worth them questioning me.

My souvenir at Mexican border in 2006 ; I had no problem there at all. Before I left to Canada, I peed in Mexico, but I never been in Mexico. (Under the fence, lots of room…) At least. to put your both feet in Mexico, before to go.

just wondering if we can get a fence built to keep out the self-righteous neo-cons from breaching my peace and freedom…

Hey just so your aware Stomper you didn’t actually piss in Mexico. It’s still the US for a bit on the other side. Not far but it is. There’s a road on the other side like the one on this side of the fence that’s ours. So anyone reaching through isnt touching Mexico. I would suggest just crawling under it in one of the huge holes that are absolutely everywhere, and walking south Like a 100 ft to be truly in Mexico then crawl back under to start your hike. Shouldnt be a problem. I took a right at the border and drove a ways by accident at night when I started couldnt see the monument, and Im suprised that wall is standing with all the missing dirt under it
