Does anyone have any thoughts about a start date in mid june? any possible problems?

A stock answer would be to wait till July-September, which is a better time to do the JMT because of lack of snow (or much less), fewer bugs, less dangerous stream crossings, etc.

However most PCT hikers cross the Sierra and JMT in mid-June most years so it’s usually pretty doable. Just depends on the snowfall year. Keep an eye on the snowlevels and make a decision. This may shape up to be a high snow yr in which case ice ax and map reading skills will come in handy. This was totally unecessary last season.

On a positive, you’ll probably encounter a lot less people in June than you would in the height of summer with all the JMTers
