Just curious, has anyone figured total miles walked on a thru-hike including blue blazes and town trips? also would be interesting to know hikers who did the least overnite stays in hostels & motels.

i’ve pondered this, too…but since my lazy ol’ brain enjoys the mental “calisthenics” associated with hiking rather than math, i’ve never taken time to sit down and calculate it)…but think of it…with 150/60 days hiking in and out of trails to the shelters (and for water and such), i would think you could add at least 100 miles to the total…as you have said,it’s, of course, purely “just for curiosity’s sake”…dontcha think most hikers aren’t so much into the numbers as the experience?..the personal stats are fun to look at,however, but i can never remember exactly how long the trail actually is! (changes from year to year, right?)…but since hiking the trail is about…well…HIKING…(as opposed to “camping”), the mileage is definitely a subject of interest (especially to first time hikers)…you COULD ask “helium” (class of '06), though…he’s the original “mr. math” (even has a math blog!)…tell him maw-ee and paw-ee said hello!
