Military Sleeping Bags

I had poseted about the new MOLLE pack (ALICE Pack replacement) and got to thinking about different military gear. Does anyone have opinions about the military mummy bags on the AT? I’ve used them in freezing conditions and it worked perfect but I just wanted to see if anyone had used on on the AT itself. Thanks in advance for any reply posts.

Good bag, but way to heavy for me to carry a long distance!

Military gear works for carrying heavy loads and a lot of abuse. It is not light weight or comfortable for long distance.

I have been using a quilted liner from a surplus German Army cagoule (knee length rain coat). The Bottom half has a zipper that goes 3/4 around it so that it can be snapped in the back to make a coat. The main zipper is in the front and you can use the long sleeves to stay in your warm bag and do many things or pull your arms inside the bag if you wish. Great budget bag that can serve several fuction on a trip! Gotta like that.

There are some good military sleeping bags from Brigade Quartermasters(www.actiongear.com)They pack small and have good temp ratings for their wait. They have cool stuff in their catalog too.

With the exception of the MOLLE and the M12 holster I think that military gear has poor quality control. In my opinion, military gear is always inferior to the civilian gear for trail use.
