Millinocket to Lake Champlain

I have been banging my head against walls for days looking for post trail transportation. Various airlines, buses, highways, hitching route, train hops… I need to get to either Burlington VT if I finish early, or Old Forge NY if I finish later.

Ideas?

Seriously, I always worried about how to get back…but have always found some hiker to give me a ride, some kind soul going that way, etc.

Most Tourists leaving the park would be thrilled to give you a ride to Millinocket, they’re all going that way any way. Just be extra friendly at the campground and climbing Katahdin. Other than good ol’ hitchin’ there is a guy in Millinocket who runs the Minuteman Taxi service. I think he will run to the park for about $50? From Millinocket you can taxi/hitch to Medway and hop a Greyhound. Check and make sure they can sell you the tickets at the gas station tho. After sucessfully Thruhiking Getting from Baxter to Anywhere USA is just another enjoyable adventure.

Somehow I would rather just hike back 500 miles than go on a 13 hour bus ride, but that looks like it could work. Greyhound has more routes there it seems. I am used to Amtrak. And I am rather fond of trains… I was also hoping for a flight because I have $150 credit with Delta that I need to use before September 12…

I couldn’t find “Medway” but I think I will be able to get to Bangor. So that Greyhound route will work. Harder than following white paint though. hmmf.

Starting this hiking season I am starting a shuttle service in Vermont and parts of New Hampshire.

Our smoke-free shuttle service includes fuel & mail drops. Shuttles to/from Burlington, VT & Manchester, NH airports, bus & train stations in Rutland, & White River Junction, VT are also available.
Advance notice is appreciated but not always required: e-mail (preferred¬) or call (please do not text) for more information on availability and rates. Shuttle is available from early March to late October at just about any hour; however, we may charge a premium for extremely early or late pickups.
We can access all trail heads from Manchester Center, VT to Mt. Moosilauke, NH and can transport up to 5 hikers w/full-size packs.
We accept MC/Visa & cash, no personal checks, please.
