What is anyone’s experience with the MSR Miox? Advantages and disadvantages.

I used one from Hot Springs, TN to Mt Katahdin during my thru hike in 2004 (my filter was getting too heavy and too bulky). Worked very well and I found it easy to use. Much lighter and less time consuming to use than a filter. Problems were the learning curve and batteries.

Big Toes~
I used the Miox on my 2004 thru-hike and loved it! I used it easily and was able to double the dose (or triple) of any quantity of water in any type of water container/carrier. The Miox is my preferred filter system, hands down.

I did not use one myself but I heard that a few people had trouble with it when it was real cold out, in the 20’s. Like I said, this is what I heard from two people that were using them but you might want to check it out in more detail. Good luck

Love the weight and size. Only forseeable problem (which I did not have) is times of low water, the inability to pump it from small ground sources. Other than that, I’ve liked it.
