Missed the Train

If I’m hiking on the AT and supposed to catch the train at the Appalachian Trail stop but missed it, what should I do? There’s Pawling one stop south and Harlem Valley one stop north, but I’m not sure how to get there aside from hiking along the tracks.

There are more reliable ways to get to NYC than the train near Pawling. The train only runs on weekends. There is bus service to NYC at the Rte 17A road crossing in Warwick every hour, 7 days a week. There is train service in Harriman NY 7 days a week. That is about 4 miles north on Rte 17 just before you enter Harriman State Park in NYC. Better yet, hitch south on Rte 17 (or use the pay phone to call a taxi) to Suffern, NY where there is bus AND train service to NYC.

Check the train schedule from Harriman & Suffern here --> http://www.njtransit.com/sf_train.shtm

hitch or walk the 3 miles down to pawling on either rt 20 or rt 22. Trains from there go to the city a couple times a day
