An Army National Guard helicopter has located two Canadian hikers who had gone missing in New Hampshire’s White Mountains earlier this week.

Quebec’s Gabriel Fortin, 30, and his girlfriend, Stephanie Desilets, 27, of Ottawa, were found just after noon on Sunday and have since been flown to safety.

The couple had been expected to arrive at the Appalachian Mountain Club centre on Thursday, but never made it. They had been missing since Wednesday.

Fish and Game Lt. Todd Bogardus told The Associated Press that the couple got off-track as a result of bad weather, but knew how to get back home.

The missing Canadians had snowshoes, a tent and a GPS with them and were reportedly well-prepared for the weather.
