They’re both hot. Both have all services you need. Mojave is easier to get around on foot, and the White’s motel in Mojave will give you a ride to and from the trail. I like Mojave.

Whatever the snow levels are in the Sierra right now could change. In 2002, there was a late snowstorm at the end of May which dumped a foot of extra snow on the Sierra. Shoot for a June 15 KM date—you’ll probably get to KM before June 15, but it’s a good goal. The later you leave KM, the better your snow situation. Check out www.thru-hiker.com. On the opening page is a snow water level chart. It looks like currently the snow situation is much lower than normal.

Can’t speak for Tehachapi, but I did hear it was more spread out than Mojave. We stayed at White’s, and found them to be extremely out-of-their-way friendly. One of the employees even let me borrow his truck to get groceries (about 1 mile away; everything else is close together). They have a little pool, fridges in the rooms, kickin AC, and a lazyboy -great for catching up on journals. Ask for the hiker box at the PO.

This is no lie----We spread some FROZEN burritos out on the concrete pool deck at the White’s motel one afternoon. About 2 hours later, they were cooked and ready to eat.

There is a public bus in Mojave that will take you to the grocery store. You call and they’ll pick you up at your motel. I think it was $2.

Don’t forget the AYCE Chink Buffet as well. And the White’s Motel is right next to a Wendy’s w/ a late night menu though the drive-thru, or walk-thru. Plus the post is just a few blocks away. Super nice people at Motel.

So I hear it’s taboo to even remotely mention anything political on this thing (which I think is crap, Tha Wookie Rocks my fellow politically deviant world!!!), so how about addressing ethnic slurs? :happy
