Montbell sleeping bag

I just recieved my montbell ultralight super stretch #2 sleeping bag. Man this bag is light, but I want to hear from someone who has used one. It is supposed to be rated between24 degrees (comfortable temp) to 5 degrees (minimum temp) I have not tried it out yet but here is my problem. It is yellow on the top and black on the bottom, when i hold it up to the light you can see the down in it but you can also see thru in alot of places. I want to know if all down bags are like that. It is a 725 fill power with 16 oz. of fill.
Thanks

Fb, that’s kind of how down works. Down “clusters” are little fluffy blobs that help make an air space between you and the cold. I’ve forgotten the feather term for how they act together. Imagine a bag of Cheese Poofs. All the poofs (curls) going every which direction and all hooking around each other. Feathers are sort of rough and cling to each other so you don’t get an even fill.

The fill power is the loft a given down per ounce will fluff to. Like 725 will loft 6" high per ounce and 800 will loft to 7". You’re fine, you got a quality bag. I agree, it’s a little freaky to look thru it and see only air in spots. A lot of the baffle fill of the down also has to do with how the bag is made. Long tubes, quilted etc. A pound of down isn’t a lot of fill, that’s where the loft #s come in. The higher the number the less you need for insulation value.

You still have the option to return it but try it first. If you have cold weather where you are lay out a clean ground sheet and sleep out on the porch one night or two and see how it does. If it’s not right get another. Bags are just as returnable as clothes that don’t fit.
