Thinking about buying these from Campmor…seeing as the price is right. ($50.) First, I wanted to hear the opinions of you fine folks.

I haven’t worn these shoes, but the price is certainly right. I knew of a few friends who were thru-hiking in these shoes and the general consensus was that the “water-proof” wore off after awhile and their feet were soaked like the rest of us.

I won’t go on my long rant, but I don’t have any faith in gore-tex or water proofing for a trail runner. I usually go for the most breathable, meshy pair I can find, one that will dry quick.

But like I said, the price is right…

I love those. My last pair went a thousand miles, replaced the insert at 500. Mine remained waterproof until the inner liner wore through, from the outside in. Same thing with a pair of Merrel GoreTex. Most people wear the Goretex liner out from the inside out.

The price is great on them, but it is all a matter of how they feel on your feet.

The Java’s are narrow, more for people with narrow feet. I thought they were great, but heard complaints from other people. As far as being waterproof - - trail runners just can’t be fully waterproof. They are lower than your ankle-bone. Water will get in to your shoe. I actually found that the waterproofing kept more water in my shoe than out, and really heated your feet up in the summer months.

Altogether, though, a great hiking shoe!

Great shoe. Wore mine on a month long hike last summer. Only problem I had is that they got a little warm at times but over all I’d buy them again. Unfortunatly those on sale at Campmor don’t include my size.
