Anything with at least 20% deet in it is supposed to be sufficient. I would recommend a head net for around camp. Without the net you could be rather miserable. I used up two small bottles of 100% deet in 2001 durring an 8 day treak in Northern Yosemite. I think the 100% deet was a little too strong, while it worked for sure, it caused a skin rash on my hands by the 5th day. I think I will use something less powerful this summer when I hike the JMT July 7th - July 25th.

Very simple;
Insect repelents without deet will not harm you as deet would, are easier on your skin, better for the environment, smell better… so on so forth, but don’t work
Insect Replents with Deet; They work. I’d use the highest % possible that doesn’t have a neg effect on you. Me, I pretty much bath in the 100%… and I get no bites.

Ben’s 100% Deet is very effective, and while I’ve read articles warning against its use, I’ve never had any problems using it or other high-deet stuff in 16 years.
At least along the southern part of the JMT, most of the gazillion mosquitos present in early summer have either moved elsewhere or gone to skeeter heaven by mid July.
