Are there mosquitos n the colorado trail and if so are they bad? I’ve backpacked through Yosemite plenty of times to know that they have them, but when it starts to get cold they disapear.

Yep, last summer there were plenty of mosquitoes in all but the driest sections of the trail, and on all but the windiest evenings. It didn’t really matter to me as I wore pants and a long sleeve shirt for pretty much the entire hike as a sun-protection measure, so the mosquitoes were not much of a problem (they are a much bigger problem out east where it’s too hot/humid to wear long pants and shirts). I just had to do a nightly kill of the ones that sneaked into my tent while I was setting up camp.

I have spent the last 4 summers near the half way point of the CT (Lujan Pass)at 10,000 feet. It has always been the same: the bugs were terrible for the first 2 weeks of July and then disappeared. It is amazing since there are no apparent water sources near the area. I was told that there are damp areas around from the melting snow. I am in an open area so any wind drives them away. It is strange that the mosquitos do not leave any lumps but the flies do!
The bugs were bad this year at Baldy Lake in July too.
