Mountain gaiters

														Yes or no for thru-hiking?

I’ve never done anything remotely close to attempting the AT and I’m avoiding unnecessary gear. But I love my gaiters since they keep my boots/socks dry from weather…

I didn't use them for the AT. They would not have kept my trail runners/socks dry from weather anyhow, because my sneakers had lots of mesh holes in them for breathe-ability and lightness.

What I did bring is the mindset that I was willing to hike:

  1. without gaiters
  2. with wet shoes/socks
  3. all the way to Maine
In my opinion, carrying the mindset is lighter/easier/better than carrying the gaiters, but I have met many people who don’t agree with me.

In my opinion, loving your gaiters doesn’t increase your chance of success/happiness. However, loving your hike does. Whatever it takes, I suppose…

Best of luck and Happy Walking!

I don't use them. No plans too either. Could change but really doubt it.
