B.B., Mountain Moma’s was located on the north side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The building was originally a country school house. A couple from Florida bought the place and turned part of the building into a country grocery store and restaurant. They lived in the other end of the building and rented out some small bunkhouses in the back along the Pigeon River.

Try Standing Bear Hostel. It is located along I-40 at Waterville Road (north of the Smokies).

Yep, they were closed when I went through in the spring.

The place was purchased by a private party as a family retreat. It is gone as far as the hiking community is concerned.

There really is not any reason to visit mt. Moma’s these days as a wonderful hostel called Standing Bear Farm lies just a few miles past the park with better facilities just a 1/4 mile up a gravel road from the trail. I forget the gentleman’s name but he was a gracious host. With laundy, a fire ring, hiker kitchen, bunk house (much nicer place to sleep than the out buildings at Mt. Momma’s), internet access, food for sale, showers and a phone, who would want to walk down that big hill only to be held captive until the morning shuttle at Mt Momma’s.

Social is correct. The owner is Curtis, but I swear this guy is Ted Nugent (or his unknown twin brother).
