MP3 players on the AT

Hey everybody, I am NOBO on April 1, 2008, and I am trying to fill up my mp3 player with good music. Does anybody have any suggestions about any good hiking songs. Ya know, those days when you have to put in 20 miles, and you just need some good inspirational/upbeat/awesome music. Anybody know of some songs like that. Thanks.

Also- 2 songs for all you hikers out there that, in my opinion, epitomize the AT are
1- What A Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong
2- Life Ain’t Always Beautiful by Gary Allan

Variety is the best, your mood will change and its nice to make a change! If your player has radio, that’s great too. I really enjoyed the classical music I picked up now and then. I usually started out in the morning with the live bird sounds and after lunch was ready for music in my ear. Books on tape is great too, downloaded off of the internet, however, its very limited. Have fun!

Probably just me but I prefer speed metal for long up hills. Anything early 80’s pop for the hot fast days. And audio books for the boring days. NPR for dinner on the low FM.

What surprised me as really good hiking music was Simon & Garfunkel. They have a great beat. Like BW said, I also had lots of books on my ipod, it made the miles melt away when they got boring. You have to concentrate on the book to follow along and you just don’t notice the hiking as much. I know there is a lot of controversy about this subject, but for me it helped.

inspirational music is very different to everyone… for me, it either was some Bob Marley (there’s a natural mystic flowing thru the air…) or maybe some DEAD (Trucking… on a cruising day… or maybe Franklin’s Tower)

John Phillip Sousa does it every time. Just shoulder that pack and march on up the trail. cannot beat it.

Evanescense for the uphills, Maroon 5 for the flat, easy going, Norah Jones for the downhills.

Heaven.

On my 05’ AT thru we traded MP3’s around to enjoy what another hiker preferred as their inspirational music…personally I’m an old folkie, but enjoyed everything from Joe Strummer to Dylan to Ani DiFranco…and if your friends don’t dance, they’re no friends of mine…of coarse the prettiest music is that which the Earth makes all by herself…good luck.

I don’t carry an MP3 or other audio devices. My music is
the Blue Jay scolding my presence ,the wind in the trees,a Red Tail Hawk announcing his being, the thunder of an approaching storm,a “chippy” chattering with joy, owls calling at night, rain on the shelter roof, best of all,the sound of my supper cooking at the end of the day.

Music makes the miles fly…

The best music for making miles is up beat.
Andre 3000 “Happy Valentines day”
Lilly Allen “Alfie” “Take What you Take” The album is called Alright Still.

If I hiked to up beat dance music it took at least an hour off the time it normall would take me to hike 20 miles.
Best of all the time passed quickly.
