MSR Hyperflow? - The Colorado Trail

Has anyone used the new MSR hyperflow? Even though there’s the weight issue, I still prefer a filter…and my katadyn hikerpro is just so bulky. I was just going to just suck it up and bring my aquamira on my upcoming hike when I saw this new ultralight filter from MSR. Looks pretty sweet, but wanted to get some first hand reviews.

thanks!

This product looks pretty good. For about the same weight you may enjoy looking at the ULA gravity filter. I used it on my 2007 thru hike and it worked like a charm.

I used Aquamira on the CT and it was fine until we reached the Cochetopa Hills. I was very glad of the use of a hiking partners filter in the Cotchetopa hills, all water sources were very cattle polluted and although Aqua Mira would have no doubt rendered the water safe it was preferable to filter it.
I too am pondering AquaMira again or replacing my old leaky Sweetwater with the Hyperflow for my Superior trail and JMT hikes this Summer.

MSR hyper flow is supposed to be the fastest and lightest filter. Somewhere between 2-3 liters a minute. There is only one catch: It can’t freeze. The hollow fiber filter is extremely fragile. Once wet there is no way to dry it completely cause it to expand when freezing breaking the filter. Also you don’t want to drop it. If you are hiking in warm weather it looks perfect. ~worries
