Mt. Elbert - The Colorado Trail

I’m thinking about climbing Elbert on the way out of Leadville. No doing with a full pack. Opinions on leaving most pack stuff at the CT junction with trail to the peak, then coming back and reloading - likelihood of pack contents being swiped?

Bear bag your pack a couple hundred feet from the trail and you should have no problem.

A pack with food in it will create a problem for the wildlife.

I wouldn’t worry about people. I would worry about Marmots! Hoist that sucker up.

We did Mt Elbert yesterday, camped overnight at the peak trailhead. Left the tent up with packs zipped up inside and food & “smellies” in the bearbag. Nothing was disturbed, though I was a bit nervous as Mt. Elbert is very popular and the south trailhead was a bit sketchy.
