MTB Races - The Colorado Trail

There are several MTB races that share portions of the CT that everyone should be aware of. I would try to avoid hiking the sections of the CT when the Breckenridge 100 and Leadville 100 MTB races are occuring:

Leadville also has several other races (including the Leadville 100 ultra).

Just something to keep in mind as your plan your CT trip…Ron

2010 Mtn Bike Race on CT
According to last year’s coordinator, the annual Colorado Trail Race for mountain bikes will probably begin on Monday Aug 02 at 6am from the Denver trailhead. The race historically takes anywhere from 4 to 9 days and now covers most of the CT.
For details on past races - routes, timing, etc. - please see http://www.climbingdreams.net/ctr/

2010 hikers might want to take this event into consideration during their planning.

Addendum: This race covers the entire length of the CT from Denver to Durango (mandatory bike detours are used where required). All other races are 100 km (61 miles) or less. By knowing the routes and dates of those shorter races, CT hikers can plan their own hiking itineraries so as to be somewhere else along the trail…if the idea of meeting mountain bikes on trail bothers you.
