How far off the JMT is Muir Ranch?

I understand they will accept mail drops, but offer no other hiker services. Is this correct?

It’s 0.7 miles off the trail southbound (down a steep hill) and 1.5 miles off trail northbound (easy hike parallel to the river, although you can’t see it most of the way).

They have a small store where you can choose from limited medical supplies, batteries, sun-screen, etc. You can also get 15 minutes of internet for $10 if you want.

There is a camping area nearby and hot springs across the river. These are accessible once the river levels go down.

If they happen to have space, they have been known to take walk-ins for lodging (incl. meals), but it’s not cheap and it’s not that often they have space. I would do your mail drop there. They take much better care of things then VVR, and at least by late season they have very nice hiker box free goodies. The hot springs is great…across the river and then wander the use trails for a couple minutes until you find them in an open meadow.

I am planning to resupply at MTR on our JMT hike. Read about their “Short Stays” on their website - $125/person. Asked about them on another forum. Got a response that someone’s brother stayed there and raved about the food. Since it will be our last good meal for 10 days I am planning on making a reservation - they do limit it to late August, September.

MTR won’t take checks or credit cards for anything. Even if you’re not planning on staying there I’d bring the cash in case you change your mind and they happen to have a spot.

Last year they happened to have spaces available when I came through to pick up my resupply, and I was just barely able to fork over enough cash to spend the night. It was worth it though. The enclosed hot springs is awesome and the meals are all you can eat (and really good).
