Do thru-hikers pay entrance fees at National Parks? What about State Parks? Are they charged on a per day basis or an entry/exit basis?

Thanks.

For the National Parks... buy an annual pass and support them!

An annual pass is a nice way to sent a bit of financial support to national parks, but it's not necessarily sufficient to meet your obligations. For certain parks on certain trails, an overnight permit is required, and sometimes a back country permit is required. For some of them, you can just walk across them without paying an access fee. You're best to check the specific requirements for the park which you want to cross.

You did not state your age. Until I turned 65 I paid the annual fee which is cheap and helps support the parks. Once 65 I bought the lifetime pass - One time fee of $ 10.00 for a lifetime ...!!!
