Just wondering if anyone has any information about our National Parks pending closings if in the event our so called government shuts down. Any information would be helpful.

I just spoke with the National Parks Service in Washington DC, and they told me that if the Government closes down, entrance to all National Parks will Close.

Most long distance hikers enter these parks via foot power. There probably will not be any noticable difference for the hiker passing though except… not having to deal with permits, rangers or trail runners whose primary purpose is to control crowds and educate the public on leave no trace ethics. As a general rule, the long distace hiking community treasures these open spaces and will continue to practice LNT guidelines regardless of the presence of paid govermental staff.
